Built by an editor who still cuts client work

Prelap is made by Sami Ullah, a video editor who runs Vidify, a video editing agency. It grew out of that agency's own client revision rounds.

“I’ve run a video editing studio for five years. The hard part was never the edit. It was keeping every note connected to the right version, the right timecode and the next action.”
Sami Ullah, founder of PrelapStill editing client work every week

Why Prelap exists

Client feedback rarely arrives as neat, timestamped comments. It arrives as a WhatsApp voice note, a text with “the bit near the start”, or an email thread with three people disagreeing. Most review tools ask the client to open a portal and type tidy comments. Most clients never do.

Prelap takes the opposite approach: let the client talk. The client gets a link with no login and records a voice note there instead of in WhatsApp, or types or draws, the way they already give notes. Prelap turns that into a timestamped revision checklist for the editor, and exports it as markers to the editing timeline.

What we build, and what we don't

Prelap is the revision loop around your edit: the review link, the checklist, the versions, the approval. It doesn't edit your video, and it isn't trying to replace your NLE. The editor gets the power tools; the client page stays simple, because a simple client page is the whole point.

The first version shipped in July 2026. Everything since is listed, dated, in the changelog.

The name

A prelap is when the sound of the next scene starts before the picture cuts to it. With Prelap, the notes arrive before you cut. More on the film term.
